Biosafety Cabinet

A Biosafety Cabinet (BSC) is a ventilated laboratory workspace designed to protect personnel, the environment, and the research material from exposure to biohazards and contamination. It achieves this by using HEPA-filtered airflow to create a sterile environment and prevent the escape of pathogens. BSCs come in various classes (I, II, III) depending on the level of protection required. They are essential in laboratories handling infectious agents, providing a safe area for tasks such as tissue culture, working with hazardous microorganisms, and preparing potentially infectious samples.
